Story of a solo journey on the Trans Siberian Railway.

(selected passage):

"Of the three interrogators, I like the fat one.  He smiled when he brought me the apple that he stole from the kitchen yesterday.  I figure that he is compassionate or interested.  Or both.  It doesn’t really matter. The one with his beret on too tight is yelling again.  I can’t tell whether he is speaking in Russian or Ukrainian.  Honestly, I am more occupied with the smell of the room.  It has the faint odor of cat piss and wallpaper.  It reminds me of my grandmother.  It’s not entirely unpleasant.

I see that he has completed his inquest.  I stand up straight, adjust my underwear flap for decency, and began explaining, not for the last time, why I am traveling without documentation and have been photographing military installations."
